Move beyond the swing: A modern dance workshop series for Lindy Hoppers
Move Beyond the Swing: A Modern Dance Workshop Series for Lindy Hoppers
Ready to take your dancing to the next level?
Join Camille for 2 transformative workshops where Lindy Hop meets Modern Dance in a series designed to unlock your body’s full potential.
Whether you're swinging out on the social floor or exploring other styles, your dancing begins with one thing: body awareness.
In this series, you'll:
Dive into the foundations of modern dance techniques
Cultivate body control, alignment, and fluidity
Explore improvisation and movement textures that fuel creativity
Develop a deeper connection to your own movement and your partner
This isn’t about choreography or fancy tricks — it’s about reconnecting with how your body moves, responds, and expresses. Through guided exploration, floorwork, and dynamic exercises, you'll build tools that enhance your dancing — not just in Lindy Hop, but across any style.
No modern dance experience needed — just curiosity and a love for movement!
About Camille:
Trained at the prestigious École Supérieure de Danse Rosella Hightower in Cannes and the Rotterdam Dance Academy, Camille Pidou has built a rich and diverse career as a contemporary dancer and teacher. Guided by a deep curiosity for movement and expression, she has performed across Europe and the United States with renowned companies such as Lonneke van Leth Producties, De Stilte, Internationaal Danstheater, and Dancers On Stage under the direction of Isabelle Beernaert.
Since 2016, Camille has been an integral member of Lonneke van Leth Producties, contributing to a wide range of narrative dance works that merge theatrical storytelling with physical poetry. Earlier collaborations include international tours with De Stilte, bringing contemporary dance to audiences from Belgium to the USA, and performing in creations by choreographers such as Jan Linkens, Jack Timmermans, and Nils Christe.
Beyond the stage, Camille is devoted to teaching. With experience in modern dance, ballet, and Lindy Hop, she shares an approach to movement that values individuality, musicality, and emotional depth. Her teaching journey has taken place in institutions such as De Stilte (Breda) and SKVR (Rotterdam), where passion and pedagogy meet through the joy of dance.
Fluent in French, English, and Dutch, Camille continues to explore the intersections between body, rhythm, and storytelling—guided by the belief that dance speaks a universal language that connects us all.

Slow Swing Slovember with Deirdre & Joost!
You’ve got the faster tempos down – now it’s time to explore the slower side of Swing!
Following their very popular summer class on Slow Swing, we've invited Deirdre & Joost back for a mini course! Read on..
This 4-week Slow Swing mini course is designed for dancers who feel confident in their Lindy Hop (or Balboa!), but find slower tempos a bit of a mystery. Because not every song calls for bounce and speed — some ask for stretch, control, and connection. Dancing slow isn’t about doing less; it requires a different kind of movement, musicality, and presence.
Together with Deirdre and Joost (international Slow Bal and Swing teachers), we’ll explore how to adapt your dancing to slower jazz music, focusing on movement quality, body awareness, and musical expression. Expect a mix of technique, inspiration, and creativity — all tailored to making the most of the music when the tempo drops.
When: Tuesdays in November – 4, 11, 18, 25
Time: 20:40 – 21:40 hr
Where: Swing in Rhythm, Willem Buytewechstraat 34, Rotterdam
Level: Blue or above (minimum 1 year of Lindy Hop experience – not suitable for beginners)
Roles: Fixed roles – register as lead or follow. If you register as switch, we will assign you a role.
Lindy Hop Yellow at Swing in Rhythm
This time, we're doing things a little differently!
Our most advanced, experienced Lindy Hop dancers are invited to join the Lindy Hop Yellow course, and encouraged to pick a specific dance role.
We'll be running the class twice a month on Sunday lunchtimes, from 11:00 to 13:00.
Each class will be given by a different set of teachers, and we're delighted to say that our final teacher line-up is finally fixed! Here it is:
21 September - Tanja & Kay (Little Jazz, Helsinki)
5 October - Katya & Nasos (Hague Hoppers)
26 October - Benedetta & Andrea (World of Jazz)
9 November - Marnix & Hanna (Hague Hoppers)
30 November - Deirdre & Joost (Slowfeet Studio)
14 December - Federico & Esther (Swing in Utrecht)
All our teachers are hand-picked because we know that each couple has something special to offer our yellow level students.
NEWSFLASH! It is possible to register for individual classes in this level, rather than a whole course! If you're interested in this option, please get in touch at swinginrhythm@gmail.com

Are you looking for a dance that brings you joy and freedom on the floor? On Saturday, February 7, we are hosting a dedicated Slow Bal day, centered around this swing dance set to slow jazz music.
Slow Bal invites you to be truly present in the moment. The slower tempo gives you the space to play with the music, discover your creative movements, and deepen the connection with your partner. This is a great chance to take the step towards comfortable dancing at slower tempos.
Sign up for the Slow Bal Club - Rotterdam Edition! We offer workshops at two levels, packed with inspiration, technique, and playfulness. After the workshops, you can immediately continue dancing and practicing during our cozy Tea Dance.

Everybody Leads, Everybody Follows - A new way of Learning!
At Swing in Rhythm almost all of our courses* are taught using the 'ELEF' method: Everybody leads, Everybody follows!
Why are we doing this?
*No more waiting lists! A common issue, particularly for follow dancers.
*No need for a partner to join workshops! Everyone gets an equal chance to join workshops.
*No more imbalance in classes! Everyone gets the chance to dance more often, without having to stand in a 'gap' in the circle.
*More inclusivity & less reliance on outdated gender roles! A more welcoming atmosphere for LGBTQ+ dancers.
*Improved technique! An understanding of both roles makes a person a better dancer.
*More fun at social dances! Being able to dance with everyone in the room, what could be more fun than that?
*Please note - the ELEF model is applied to all green and blue courses unless stated otherwise.
When taking yellow level lessons, you are assumed to be willing to specialise in a particular role, so you can choose to fix in a role or continue to dance ELEF if that is your preference, and if it works with the balance in class.
